Mental clutter disappears and fatigue flies away

Why Meditation Is More Than Its Often Cited ' Top 10 Physical and Mental Health Benefits ' - A Testimonial

"I've been meditating for three months and it's really changed my life" - that's what I've been telling my interlocutors in recent weeks.

Faced with puzzled expressions and hesitant “how?”s, I often struggle to convey the benefits of meditation in just a few sentences.

Lists of “ top 10 benefits of meditation ,” which include reduced anxiety, improved sleep, and improved focus, are often cited to describe meditation. While true, these lists don’t fully summarize my experience with the practice. In my opinion, it’s more—much more—than that.

If I asked you, for example, how a romantic relationship positively affects your life, you probably wouldn't just list the top ten benefits of a relationship, such as expanding social circles, reducing stress (or not!), and increasing longevity.

Meditation is about building a relationship with yourself. Like relationships with people, its effects are complex and felt at a very deep level.

The benefits of meditation cannot be described categorically.

It is not that on the one hand meditation helps to concentrate and on the other hand it helps to relax. I have experienced that the effects of meditation are interrelated and that they impact on each other.

It helps me find wisdom within myself and move closer to a more peaceful “me.” This leads me to be more intentional in my daily life, and therefore to pay more focused attention to my work and other activities. Increased productivity leaves me more time to enjoy the other things in life, and the virtuous cycle continues...

Meditation is less, not more

The value of meditation comes from all the things it removes rather than adds to life.

It’s about focusing on what’s essential. She encouraged me to step back from negative and destructive patterns. See thoughts as just thoughts rather than as marks of reality that need to be acted upon.

The benefits of meditation must be felt to be understood.

Because the benefits of meditation are based on a change in perspective, I believe they must be experienced to be fully understood.

Often when I meditate, I feel a sense of higher power and connection that seems to defy the limitations of my body. It puts me in a state of acceptance, of seeing things as they are. Instead of seeing life as “me” versus “the world,” I see life as… well, life, but in a wonderful way.

In summary, the benefits of my journey with meditation can be described by a series of paradoxes:

  • Giving up control over certain aspects of my life has given me more power to live the life I want.

  • Connecting to my heart allows me to take a more rational approach to life's problems.

  • Letting go of my individual self brings me into contact with the real “me.”

  • Freeing up the notion of time and space helps me to better occupy each instance within time and space.

  • ...Well, I'll stop there. I hope you've understood that this spiritual process can be a wonderfully rich experience.

And the only way to truly grasp the benefits of meditation is to experience it for yourself!
